BOOK TALK: Sheffield Gardeners Monthly Meeting, Sheffield Library

February 12 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Flavors and Stories of the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts
In the Newly Revised Edition of The Berkshires Farm Table Cookbook
More Than 125 Homegrown Recipes and Inspiring Farmer Profiles from New England’s Most Beloved Hills

The beloved celebration of local food, sustainable agriculture, and New England culture returns with even more heart in the newly revised edition of The Berkshires Farm Table Cookbook by Elisa Spungen Bildner and Robert Bildner, with new recipes and farmer profiles. This fresh edition expands on the original’s mission—to spotlight the vibrant foodways, resilient farms, and deep-rooted sense of community that define western Massachusetts.

Part cookbook, part love letter to the land, this updated edition features over 125 farm-to-table recipes and introduces a new generation of farmers, food producers, and chefs shaping the Berkshires’ culinary identity. From an evergreen Kale and Peanut Salad and Farm Hash with Poached Eggs to Sweet Corn Pancakes and Shiitake Mushroom Frittata, the recipes remain grounded in the flavors of the region, drawing directly from its fields, orchards, and community tables.

About the Speakers:
Elisa Spungen Bildner and Robert Bildner are both former lawyers with experience in the local food industry who have lived in the Berkshires for more than 40 years. Elisa also worked as a journalist and professionally trained chef (School of Natural Cookery, Boulder, CO). Robert shot the farm and chef photographs for The Berkshires Farm Table Cookbook. The Bildners are prolific advocacy leaders in the non-profit, philanthropic world with a focus on the Jewish community.
